DEADLINE: 13TH AUGUST, 2020
The Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) The Project is supported with financing from the World Bank. The lead agency at the Federal

The Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) is designed to support the objective of achieving greater environmental and economic security. The Project is aimed at addressing severe gully
erosion problems in the short term, reducing vulnerability to soil erosion and climate variability in the medium term, and promoting long-term climate fever
ecosystem Services, climate change, disaster risk management, biodiversity, institutional capacity and governance.
The Project Management Unit (SPMU) of Ekiti State NEWMAP has commissioned various studies aimed at effectuating successful implementation of the NEWMAP in the state. One of which is to engage a consulting firm for Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Baseline Study for Ekiti State under the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed management project (EK-NEWMAP)The Project Development Objective is to Rehabilitate degraded lands and reduce longer-term erosion vulnerability in targeted areas. AIl State level, NEWMAP activities involve medium-sized civil works such as construction of infrastructure andor stabilization or rehabilitation in and around the gullies themselves, as well as small works in the small watershed where gullies form and expand.
Objectives and Scope of the Consultancy services
The purpose of this assignment is to conduct a baseline M&E study to identify basic initial conditions of the project area to provide the baseline benchmark which will aid in the measurement of the progress and achievements of the intervention. The study will include the generation of the socio-cconomic and biophysical baseline indicators for the M&E system of Ekiti State NEWMAP. The socio-economic baseline study will include comprehensive household and community-level surveys; the biophysical baseline study will require appropriate technical expertise which includes a topographical survey to establish the geometric properties of the gullies floodplains and vegetation.
Improve the learning process in the M&E system and enable the adoption of proactive measures as the project progresses, while ensuring sustainability of the intervention; and also provide technical support to the SPMU related to project monitoring and evaluation under this assignment.

The results to be achieved as outlined in the Project Appraisal Document are as follows: – Reduced loss of infrastructure including roads, houses, markets, and other real estate;
– Reduced loss of agricultural land and productivity from soil loss caused by surface and gully erosion;
– Reduced siltation in rivers leading to less flooding particularly in urban areas and which will also lead to performance enhancements to some of the water systems for improved access to domestic water supply:
– Reduced risks of rural floods (duc to reduce siltation and improved water quality) and reduced impacts on villages and agricultural areas;
– Reduced sedimentation in, rivers and in water infrastructure such as canals and dam reservoirs improving their life and productivity:
– Improved access to economie activities, social services, and communication and road networks;
– Restored vegctative cover that benefits wildlife, terrestrial carbon sequestration, und local microclimates; and
