Overview :
The role of women in traditional societies that make up Nigeria today is largely untold and, in some ways, virtually non-existent. A critical review of Nigerian history usually leaves the impression that Nigerian women have been glossed over, misunderstood, and underestimated. While social and cultural life in Nigeria today might indicate that women are free, and complete, a closer examination might suggest otherwise.
UNDP Nigeria aspires to bring the history of women’s role in the development of communities and societies in Nigeria to the forefront through a 2-hour four-part documentary series. To this end, the UNDP Nigeria are kindly requesting proposals from eligible film and production companies.
The objective of the docuseries is to tell the story of women in Nigerian societies, throughout the ages, to identify and capture their roles in development. It will also explore their historical and cultural understanding and examine the values that affect women’s issues and rights. In this context, it will debunk the idea that women are subsidiary to the Nigerian story and will help place them in their rightful place in its history. This biographical docuseries of a nation through an unusual lens, will show that women have always led from the front.
