BACKGROUND
The Addressing Education in Northeast Nigeria project is a 3-year project funded by USAID and implemented by FHI 360 and its partners. The goal of the project is to address the immediate education needs of 300,000 children and youth in 225 communities across Borno and Yobe through new non-formal and safer formal education. The project will also lay a foundation for sustainable, conflict-sensitive improvement of education systems at the community and government levels.

Scope of Work

The purpose of this consultancy is to support FHI 360’s curriculum development efforts. FHI 360 is in the process of creating an accelerated curriculum equivalent to grades 4-6 and requires the assistance of a consultant to finalize the materials and create an accompanying training manual. 

Specifically, the consultant will work with FHI 360 staff and consultants to complete the following activities:

  • Create a teacher-friendly scope and sequence for accelerated English literacy, math, science and social studies (building on the AENN team’s draft scope and sequence). The scope and sequence will be 28 weeks for math, science and social studies, and 36 weeks for English literacy
  • Work with FHI 360 staff to create and revise pupil book texts for 20 weeks of math, science, social studies and English (approximately 80 pages)
  • Edit lesson plans for upper grades literacy, math, science and social studies, as time allows

Qualifications

  • High-level technical competency in development of curriculum and materials for early grade literacy and math
  • High-level technical competency in development lesson plans and materials for early grade reading, math, and/or social-emotional learning
  • Teaching experience preferred

Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated in accordance with the following criteria:

  • Use of well-known frameworks and terminology for social emotional learning
  • Ability to complete deliverables within the desired timeframe
  • Willingness and ability to travel to Northeast Nigeria
