DEADLINE: 28TH FEBRUARY, 2021
EVIDENCE FOR ACTION (E4A)
REQUEST FOR: CALL FOR PROPOSALS
IMPACT STUDY OF THE EVIDENCE FOR ACTION (E4A) MAMAYE PROGRAMME IN KENYA AND NIGERIA
LOCATION: NAIROBI & BUNGOMA IN KENYA AND BAUCHI, NIGER, AND LAGOS IN NIGERIA
The E4A-MamaYe programme is calling for research groups to submit proposals for a two-part study to understand the status of the project’s progress at outcome and impact level and the prospect of these changes being sustainable, and to identify learnings and recommendations that can be taken forward. The study should be conducted in April 2021 and again in February 2022.
BACKGROUND:
Since starting in 2012, the Evidence for Action (E4A) programme has used a combination of evidence to drive accountability for maternal and newborn outcomes. E4A catalyses change by bringing together groups (including government, civil society and health practitioners) to use existing information and resources to:
(1) Identify the reasons why women and babies are dying
(2) Agree on how available resources can be used most effectively to address these reasons
(3) Advocate for the changes needed
In July 2019, we started a new phase of the programme with a focus on ensuring civil society can access, analyse and use data to advocate independently by empowering coalitions to be self-supporting. Find out more about what we do through this video.
This research will assess the progress of this work.
SCOPE OF WORK:
This is a two-part study to:
(1) assess progress of the E4A project towards its intended outcomes and impact, the prospect of these changes being sustainable, and provide recommendations to address any gaps to ensure targets can be met by the close of the project; and,
(2) at the close of the project, again assess the outcomes, impact and potential sustainability of the programme and identify learnings and recommendations that would strengthen future programming in this sector.
Phase 1 of the study should commence in April 2021 and be completed by 8 May 2021. Phase 2 of the study should commence in February 2022 and be completed by 31st March 2022
The proposed research should:
- Be learning-orientated, participatory and engage a broad range of Nigerian and Kenyan actors.
- Capture any unforeseen consequences including any negative consequences of the project.
- Consider the project through an intersectional gender-lens.
More information, including a full list of the project’s outcome and impact targets and suggested research questions, can be found in the attached Call for Proposals.
PROCESS FOR SUBMISSION:
Applicants must apply by submitting a proposal using the template attached, CVs of Principle Investigators and Co-Investigators (no more than 1xA4 page per CV), a detailed workplan, and evidence of organisational and/or PIs track record of research on related subjects or using proposed research methodologies.
Applications must be received by 17.00 GMT on 28th February 2021
Applications should be collated into a single pdf file and submitted to Alice Tilton. (a.tilton@options.co.uk)
Applications that pass the initial review process will be contacted for interview, planned for the week commencing 8 March 2021.
OTHER INFORMATION:
Proposals should be up to a maximum of £48,000 (including both direct and indirect costs).
Applications are particularly encouraged from researchers or research organisations in countries where E4A works, as well as researchers based in the UK working in equitable partnerships with investigators in countries where E4A works.
